College Application Abbreviations

College Application Abbreviations

  • ED= Early Decision (you apply and find out early but cannot apply early to any other private school; if you are accepted, you must go)
  • REA= Restrictive Early Action (you apply and find out early but cannot apply early to any other private school)
  • EA= Early Action (you apply and find out early)
  • EC= Extracurricular (stuff you do outside of school)
  • ST = Standardized Testing (SAT/ACT)
  • DOA = Director of Admissions
  • LOR + Letter of Recommendation
  • TOEFL = Test of English as Foreign Language
  • LAC = Liberal Arts College
  • QOL/QL = Quality of Life
  • DOI = Demonstration of Interest
  • LOCI = Letter of Continued Interest (a letter you write after waitlist or deferral) 
  • OOS = Out of State
  • CR = Class Rank
  • GPA = Grade Point Average

Scholarships & Aid Abbreviations

  • FGLI = First generation/low-income
  • NM = National Merit (if with an F, the F stands for Finalist)
  • EFC = Expected Family Contribution (how much your family is supposedly able to pay)
  • COA = Cost of Attendance
  • FAFSA= Free Application for Federal Student Aid (monetary information most schools will need you to send to them)
